Drought triggers depletion of tubewell water resources

Locals report water scarcity after the water level dropped significantly in the tubewells installed in different areas of Triyuga-12, 11, 3, 1, 2, 4, and 5.

KATHMANDU: After the drought this year, water from the tubewells installed in various locations within the Triyuga Municipality area of Udayapur has dried up.

Locals report water scarcity after the water level dropped significantly in the tubewells installed in different areas of Triyuga-12, 11, 3, 1, 2, 4, and 5.

Dhan Bahadur Magar, a local of Triyuga-12, Buddhabhumi, informed that water has stopped coming from the tubewell installed at his house for the past 10 days.

According to Devraj Karki of Shivapuri Tole in Triyuga-11, due to the recent severe drought, water has stopped flowing even from tubewells installed up to 20 feet deep.

Krishna Dhungana of Ward No. 1, Jogidaha, mentioned that in the area where tubewells have been installed up to 17 to 20 feet deep, water has stopped coming for several days.

Nandidev Chaudhary of Motigada said that water has stopped coming from the buried taps after the drought in Triyuga-2 Khaijanpur and Ward No. 3 Bhulke Motigada area.

Paramananda Chaudhary of Ward No. 5, Deuri, Jaljale, stated that more than five dozen tubewells in their area have dried up.

According to Chaudhary, while water used to be accessible from wells dug 17 to 20 feet deep in this area, the majority of these wells have now dried up.

According to Pashupati Dev Chaudhary, the tubewell mechanic of Gaiighat Digamet, the water level has dropped up to 25 to 30 feet due to the recent drought, affecting the flow of water from the tubewells.

After the drying up of water sources, some locals are compelled to fetch water from nearby rivers, causing inconvenience, as mentioned by local resident Rojan Chaudhary.
