WHO Director-General Dr Tedros leaves Nepal for Geneva
KATHMANDU: April. 23 – Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), returned to Geneva on Saturday after a three-day visit to Nepal.
He was invited to Nepal by Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada. Accompanying the Director General are Dr. Poonam Khetrapal, Regional Director, WHO Regional Office for Southeast Asia, and other WHO officials. During the visit, he had various courtesy meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka and Health Minister Khatiwada.
He also paid a visit to a school in Kathmandu Valley that was one of the locations where children were given typhoid vaccine. Dr Tedros, before leaving Nepal, tweeted that Nepal was the first country in the WHO South-East Asia Region (WHO SEARO) to launch a typhoid vaccination campaign.
The visiting WHO high-level delegation was seen off at the Tribhuvan International Airport by Minister Khatiwada and high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
