Votes count begins at Prithvi Narayan Campus
According to Election Officer Prof. Dr. Ramchandra Pokhrel, the counting started at 9:30 AM on Monday.
KATHMANDU: The vote counting for the Student Union (FSU) elections at Prithvi Narayan Campus, the largest affiliated campus under Tribhuvan University, located in Pokhara, has officially commenced.
According to Election Officer Prof. Dr. Ramchandra Pokhrel, the counting started at 9:30 AM on Monday.
In Sunday’s voting, a total of 2,896 (31.24%) voters participated in the direct election, and 2,892 (31.19%) participated in the proportional election.
The campus had a total of 9,270 eligible voters.
A joint meeting with all unions/organizations, panels, and independent candidates had agreed to start the vote counting from 8 AM on Monday.
A total of 8 unions/panels are competing in the direct election, and 9 in the proportional election at Prithvi Narayan Campus.
The candidates for FSU president in the direct elections include: Navin Adhikari from All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary), Milan Sunar from All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Sixth), Dipson Gurung from Prajnik Student Council Nepal, Sushil Nyaupane from Nepal Student Union, Santosh Poudel from Joint Panel, and Bishnu Pokhrel from All Nepal National Independent Student Union. Independent candidates Kamal Subedi and Bipul Nyaupane are also running for the post.
In the proportional elections, various organizations including All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary), All Nepal National Independent Student Union, Prajñik Student Council Nepal, All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Sixth), All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary) Vaidya, Nepal Student Union, All Nepal National Independent Student Union, All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Socialist), and New Power Student Union have fielded candidates.
This is the first time the FSU election is being held at the campus since 2008. The election process was delayed twice due to errors in the ballot papers and a blockade, leading to the postponement of voting on March 5 and 6.
The leadership of the FSU at Prithvi Narayan Campus has historically played a significant role in national politics.
Past leaders from the campus include former Provincial Chief Somnath Adhikari Pyasi, former Home Minister Khagaraj Adhikari, former Health Minister Padam Giri, former Minister and Late Rabindra Adhikari, former National Youth Union President Rajeev Pahari, and Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Dhanraj Acharya.
Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara also served as the FSU Treasurer in 40/41.
