KATHMANDU: Renowned actor and filmmaker Neer Shah has returned to film direction after a decade.

His upcoming eighth directorial venture, Kamala Miss, officially kicked off its shooting with a traditional shubha muhurta ceremony on Friday morning at New Millennium School in Imadol, Lalitpur.

Shah last directed the 2015 film Seto Bagh.

Inspired by the acclaimed play Kohee Kin Barbād Hos by the late literary icon Vijay Malla, Kamala Miss features a stellar ensemble cast including Basna Timilsina, Shivam Sharaff K.C., Arabh Dahal, Bhavana Magar, Sushant Kumar Shrestha, and Jayantaa Regmi.

The film explores sensitive themes of child psychology and the profound impact of love, maternal care, and parental responsibility on children.

Presented by the Vijay Malla Memorial Foundation, the film is executive produced by Umesh Malla and Chaitanya Pradhan.

While the story is adapted from Malla’s play, the screenplay and dialogues are collaboratively crafted by Shah, Prajal Dulal, and Sugam Dulal.

Shivaram Shrestha handles cinematography, Yug Bhusal composes the music, and Ramji Lamichhane takes charge of choreography.

Originally published in 1969, Kohee Kin Barbad Hos has been staged by Kunj Theater, St. Xavier’s College, and Budhanilkantha School, with notable actors like Sunil Pokharel performing in earlier productions.

The narrative poignantly addresses how love and parenthood shape children’s lives, highlighting the crucial responsibilities of guardians.
