UML Chief Whip Mahar mocks Rabi’s India reception

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar has drawn sharp criticism after making a controversial remark about Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently on a five-day visit to India at the invitation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to journalists about Lamichhane’s “grand reception” in India, Mahar said the welcoming scene reminded him of a sacrificial goat during Dashain, stating that goats are fed well for a few days before the festival sacrifice, adding a pointed rhetorical question about whether a similar situation was being created.

Lamichhane was welcomed at the BJP office with flower showers and a ceremonial reception during his ongoing visit, which has drawn political attention in Nepal.
