TIAs customs staff caught red-handed taking bribes

KATHMANDU: Three employees of the Foreign Postal Customs Branch at Tribhuvan International Airport were caught red-handed accepting bribes by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday.

Acting on a special tip-off about illegal transactions with service recipients, the CIAA team apprehended the officials at the Goshwara Postal Office in the Dillibazar complex.

Those arrested include Customs Officer Indra Neupane, Deputy Subba Chhabi Prasad Rijal, and office assistant Ganesh Prasad Pudasaini.

According to the commission, the suspects were found with bribe money as well as a significant amount of cash from unidentified sources.

Pudasaini was caught with Rs 10,000 in bribes and Rs 136,420 from unknown sources, totaling Rs 146,420.

Similarly, Nasu Rijal of the Postal Customs Parcel (Clearance) Branch was found with Rs 20,000 in bribes and additional unexplained funds totaling Rs 268,288.

The CIAA confirmed that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
