Three suspended for declaring alive baby dead, inquiry committee formed

KATHMANDU: Youth Association has demanded action against doctors and the medical superintendent with placards at Koshi Hospital in protest of the death of a 17-day-old baby.

Action has been demanded against the medical officer Dr. Aakash Yadav, paramedical officer Laxman Majhi and Tika Bhandari working in the emergency room of Koshi Hospital.

The National Youth Association Nepal Biratnagar City Committee has demanded to take action against the doctor, staff, and medical superintendent who declared the baby dead.

Under the leadership of Youth Association Nepal Biratnagar, serious attention has been drawn to Koshi Hospital, with the Youth Association threatening a strong protest if the concerned person is not taken action within two days.

Meanwhile, a three-member investigation committee has been formed to look into the case of the baby’s death.

Dr. Yadav declared that Dilip Mukhia’s baby, who was brought to the hospital’s emergency room on Wednesday for treatment, had died. When the baby showed movement after a while, the patient’s relatives became enraged. The enraged crowd assaulted Dr. Yadav.

A three-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of the hospital’s pediatrician Dr. Praveen Jha to investigate the incident.

Pediatrician Dr. Suryakant Chaudhary and Administration Officer and Information Officer Ram Prasad Nepal are members of the committee.

Medical superintendent Laxmi Narayan Yadav of Koshi Hospital informed that the health workers have been suspended until the committee submits its final report.

Three people involved in the incident have been suspended. Acting Medical Superintendent Yadav announced that hospital paramedics Tika Bhandari and Lakxman Majhi, as well as doctor Aakash Yadav, have been suspended for seven days, with an explanation due within 24 hours.
