Three Nepali movies led by top actresses hit theatres together
The films—“Guru Aama” starring Mithila Sharma, “Lalibazar” featuring Swastima Khadka, and “Malati Mangale” starring Barsha Raut—have entered nationwide screening.
KATHMANDU: Three films featuring two generations of popular Nepali actresses have been released simultaneously in cinemas across Nepal from Friday.
The films—“Guru Aama” starring Mithila Sharma, “Lalibazar” featuring Swastima Khadka, and “Malati Mangale” starring Barsha Raut—have entered nationwide screening with distinct storylines and themes, offering audiences varied cinematic choices.
Among the three, “Lalibazar” has secured the highest number of shows for Friday, with over 120 screenings nationwide. “Malati Mangale” follows with around 105 shows, while “Guru Aama” has received 71 shows, according to the Khalti app. Altogether, the three films have approximately 300 shows across the country.
Malati Mangale
Produced for the first time by singer Ramkrishna Dhakal, “Malati Mangale” is directed by Praku Pandey.
The film features Bijay Baral, Barsha Raut, Maksam Goudel, Prakash Ghimire, Sarita Giri, Naren Thapa, Mansu Sapkota, Sushma Niraula, Sunil Tamang, among others. It portrays the emotional ups and downs in a marital relationship.
Lalibazar
Directed by Yam Thapa, “Lalibazar” is based on the story of a mother and daughter from the Badi community.
The cast includes Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Bishal Devkota, Prashansa Subedi, Mukund Kumar Shrestha, Abhay Baral, Govinda Sunar, Asha Paudel, Abha Aryal, Tara Sharma, Ramesh Badi, and Saraswati Adhikari, among others.
The film was originally scheduled for release on Baisakh 18 (May 1) but was delayed after a legal case was filed against it.
The Patan High Court later ruled that there was no need to continue an earlier interim order, clearing the way for its release.
A premiere screening was held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Guru Aama
Directed by Prem Soni Sunar, “Guru Aama” features Mithila Sharma, Gauri Malla, Buddhi Tamang, Sushil Pokharel, Dhruv Koirala, Uttam KC, and Radhika Hamal.
Actress Puja Sharma also appears in a dance sequence in one of the film’s songs.
The film explores the relationship between teachers and students, focusing on emotional and social dynamics within that bond.
