KATHMANDU: Actor and singer Prakash Saput has officially entered the political arena, securing a proportional representation candidacy with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Placed second on the Dalit male cluster list, Saput is almost certain to become a lawmaker following RSP’s decisive victory of 125 direct seats and nearly 4 million votes in the proportional representation category.

While preparing to assume his parliamentary seat, Saput unveiled the teaser for his upcoming film ‘Paral Ko Aago’ on Monday.

The teaser showcases a humorous marital conflict between a husband and wife, with Saput portraying the irritable husband and Suhana Thapa as his wife. Saugat Malla also appears in the clip.

Directed by Laxman Sunar, the film features an ensemble cast including Saugat Malla, Prakash Saput, Suhana Thapa, Srijana Adhikari, Kishor Bhandari, Jack Shrestha, Sarita Bhandari, Renu Neupane, and child artist Manjila Baniya. Produced by Sushil Pokharel under Hariom Cine Makers, the screenplay is written by Sushil Devkota.

Set for release across Nepal on Baisakh 11 (April 24), the film boasts cinematography by Sankalpa Bhujel, editing by Milan Shrestha, choreography by Ramji Lamichhane, color coordination by Kunal Kunwar, and music by Shanti Thatal, Satya Swaroop, and Prakash Saput himself.

The teaser depicts a rural marital dispute: Saput’s character punishes his wife for returning late from fetching water, while neighbors, played by Saugat Malla and his wife, attempt to intervene.

Saput’s character, however, dismisses their involvement, reflecting the reality of Nepali societal norms.

Traditional rural elements such as baskets and hilly landscapes are prominently featured, creating an authentic backdrop.

Inspired by the classic folk tale ‘Paral Ko Aago’ by rural storyteller Guruprasad Mainali, the film revives the story for a contemporary audience while maintaining the essence of the original narrative.

This story, included in Mainali’s collection ‘Naaso’, was first adapted into a film 45 years ago by Pratap Subba.

Producer Pokharel emphasized that the new adaptation honors the original work while presenting it in a modern and engaging way.
