KATHMANDU: Teachers under the leadership of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation staged a sit-in at the central office of the CPN (Unified Socialist) on Sunday, continuing their protest for the fourth consecutive day.

The federation has been pressuring political parties to incorporate their key demands in the School Education Bill.

Prior to this, they had staged similar demonstrations at the central offices of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre).

During the protest, the teachers warned that if their concerns remain unaddressed, they will announce a more intense phase of agitation beginning on Bhadra 21.

Federation Chairperson Laxmi Kishor Subedi said that teachers and staff across the country should be ready for the second phase of protests. “If our demands are ignored and the Act comes without addressing our issues, we will launch an even stronger agitation than that of 2081/82. I call on all teachers and staff nationwide to prepare for this struggle,” he stated.

The federation has emphasized that the School Education Bill does not address their major demands, and they are continuing sit-in programs at party headquarters to increase pressure on political leaders.
