KATHMANDU: Switzerland secured an emphatic 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Thursday night, moving to the top of Group B with four points.

The match, played at Los Angeles Stadium, remained tightly contested until the closing stages before Switzerland produced a dominant finish.

Head coach Murat Yakin introduced forward Dan Ndoye in the 72nd minute, and the substitution paid immediate dividends. Just two minutes later, Ndoye broke the deadlock with a superb volley before adding his second goal in the 90th minute after being set up by fellow substitute Ruben Vargas.

Vargas had earlier doubled Switzerland’s advantage in the 84th minute, shortly after Bosnia were reduced to 10 men. Defender Tarik Muharemovic was shown a red card in the 80th minute for bringing down striker Breel Embolo outside the penalty area.

With a numerical advantage, Switzerland intensified their attacks and took firm control of the contest.

Bosnia pulled one back in the third minute of stoppage time when Ermin Mahmic powered home from a corner, beating goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to make it 3-1.

However, Switzerland had the final say. Deep into added time, midfielder Amar Memic fouled Swiss substitute Djibril Sow inside the area, earning Switzerland a penalty. Captain Granit Xhaka calmly converted from the spot, beating goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj to seal a convincing 4-1 win.

The victory lifts Switzerland to the top of Group B with four points after drawing 1-1 with Qatar in their opening match. Bosnia and Herzegovina, who also drew 1-1 against co-hosts Canada in their first game, have one point.

The final round of Group B matches will be played on June 25.
