KATHMANDU: Veteran artist Hari Bansha Acharya expressed deep sorrow over the death of actor Sunil Thapa, calling it a significant loss for both the arts and sports in Nepal.
Speaking to journalists at a condolence program organized by the Film Development Board, Acharya praised Thapa’s versatile personality and international acclaim.
According to Acharya, Thapa played a crucial role in putting Nepalese actors on global platforms such as Bollywood, Hollywood, and Netflix.
Watching his films, Acharya recalled, gave Nepalese people a sense of pride in their identity, highlighting Thapa’s remarkable international presence.
Before beginning his acting career, Thapa was also a national-level football player in India—a fact Acharya emphasized.
He added that moments of proudly introducing Thapa as “our man, Sunil Thapa” to Indian friends are now part of history.
Acharya also fondly remembered working with Thapa in popular films like Ta Ta Sarai Bigris Ni Badri and Je Bho Ramrai Bho, noting that Thapa’s exceptional acting and supportive nature were key to their success.
He described Thapa as a gentle and polite individual who never caused anyone pain.
