Student Unions urge acting PM to enact student-friendly education act
They called for an education system that develops professional, ethical, competitive, and accessible human resources dedicated to national interests.
KATHMANDU: Student organizations have submitted a memorandum to Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, demanding the immediate implementation of a student-friendly Education Act.
On Tuesday morning, representatives of the student unions handed over the memorandum at the Ministry, expressing concerns that the current bill promotes privatization and commercialization of education, undermines public education, and encourages youth migration abroad.
The student unions emphasized that education should be guided by universal legal and ethical values, making the state primarily responsible for the education, care, and protection of children, including orphans.
They called for an education system that develops professional, ethical, competitive, and accessible human resources dedicated to national interests.
They demanded the inclusion of these provisions in the Act and urged the government to promptly enact a student-friendly School Education Act.
Furthermore, they insisted on the immediate and full implementation of constitutional provisions guaranteeing compulsory and free education up to the basic level, and fully free secondary education.
