Srishti Bhattarai clarifies viral car window video
Bhattarai said the footage is not recent and was recorded several years ago while she was traveling privately, long before assuming public office.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Srishti Bhattarai has issued a clarification regarding a viral video that has sparked debate and criticism on social media.
In a statement, Bhattarai said the footage is not recent and was recorded several years ago while she was traveling privately, long before assuming public office.
“The video is an old one filmed during a personal trip and is unrelated to my current public responsibilities or any government position,” she said.
Bhattarai clarified that she was a passenger, not the driver, and that the video merely showed her briefly leaning out of a car window while enjoying the journey. She argued that the incident should not be interpreted as carrying any political, administrative, or public message.
She further stressed that the footage was not connected to any official event or public duty, describing it as a private moment from her personal life.
While defending her right to personal privacy, Bhattarai acknowledged the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and road safety standards.
She noted that many people may have engaged in actions at different stages of their lives that do not fully align with traffic rules and urged the public to view the video in that context.
The lawmaker also stated that she would not repeat such behavior in the future and encouraged everyone to remain mindful of road safety.
“Road safety and compliance with traffic rules are a shared responsibility. I hope this can be seen as an opportunity to raise awareness rather than merely a subject of criticism,” she said.
Bhattarai concluded by urging the public to evaluate her based on her work and overall contribution, reaffirming her commitment to the trust placed in her by the people.
