Singh highlights Civil Servants’ key role in nation-building

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakashman Singh addressed a gathering in Kathmandu on Sunday, emphasizing that the responsibility for effective implementation of development, good governance, and service delivery lies with civil servants. on the occasion of Civil Service Day .

Singh underscored the significant role of civil service in institutionalizing the federal democratic republic, ensuring the equitable distribution of democratic benefits, and strengthening citizens’ trust and confidence in the state.

He stated that, given the public’s expectations for development and good governance, it is imperative for the civil service to continuously adapt, align, and refine itself to meet these needs.

Minister Singh called for civil servants to remain committed to delivering services that are simple, streamlined, and results-oriented, with a focus on citizens’ needs.

He further stated that the civil administration must work under political guidance to achieve the long-term goal of a prosperous Nepal and a happy Nepalese populace.

Singh emphasized that the civil service’s core responsibility is to perform tasks in alignment with the country’s long-term goals, periodic plans, the policies and programs of the Government of Nepal, and the current fiscal year’s budget.

“The civil service is tasked with the crucial duty of effectively implementing development, good governance, and service delivery. Its role is indispensable in institutionalizing the federal democratic republic and ensuring that the benefits of democracy are distributed while increasing citizens’ trust in the state. In this context, it is essential for civil servants to adapt, align, and refine themselves to meet citizens’ expectations of development and good governance,” Singh remarked.

He also noted that civil servants should place service recipients at the center, committing to simpler, more efficient, and result-oriented service delivery. To achieve the goal of a prosperous Nepal and a happy Nepalese, the civil service must continue its role under political leadership, Singh asserted.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the civil service forms the backbone of the governance structure and is an integral part of nation-building.

He pointed out that the government is moving forward with the principles of Nepal’s Constitution, focusing on the effective implementation of federalism, improving public service delivery, and promoting a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.

Singh expressed his belief that, despite the widespread sense of despair among the public, civil servants will increasingly contribute to nation-building with renewed hope and energy.

He also announced the government’s commitment to expedite the passage of the Federal Civil Service Bill through Parliament, which is expected to strengthen administrative federalism and enhance the overall efficiency of the civil service.
