KATHMANDU: Singer Shiva Pariyar has strongly objected to being identified as a “person spreading misleading information on social media” in the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Commission, stating the claim is not based on facts.

In a press statement issued via Facebook on Monday, Pariyar clarified that his post during the Gen Z protest period was purely a question aimed at verifying circulating claims, not an attempt to spread misinformation.

He explained that on Sept 9, following the protests on Sept 8, he repeatedly encountered posts on social media alleging that “32 people who had gone missing were found dead inside the Parliament building.” Seeking to confirm the truth, he wrote a query asking whether the claim was accurate.

“My post, word-for-word, was: ‘There is news that 32 people who went missing yesterday were found dead inside the Parliament building — is this true?’” he said.

Pariyar stressed that the post did not assert, confirm, or promote the claim in any way. Instead, he said it was a question raised under his constitutional right as a citizen to seek accurate information, reflecting widespread public confusion at the time.

He further noted that after receiving numerous responses from well-wishers, audiences, Facebook friends, and followers clarifying that the claim was false and misleading, he deleted the post, recognizing it was no longer necessary. This, he said, demonstrates that his sole intention was to verify facts.

Calling the allegation serious, Pariyar said it has adversely affected his constitutional rights, personal reputation, and public image as an artist. He added that he is deeply hurt by the characterization.
