KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has advanced the process for a final hearing in the controversy surrounding Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s vote of confidence.

On Tuesday, a bench comprising Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Shreekanta Paudel noted that written responses had already been submitted and ordered the case to proceed directly to a full hearing.

Previously, the case had been limited to preliminary hearings. However, the court stated that, since no interim order was deemed necessary and the defendants’ written submissions were in, it was now appropriate to move straight to a final judgment.

According to the latest Supreme Court order, the case will now move toward a conclusive ruling. Earlier, a bench led by Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel had issued a “show-cause” order, requesting written responses from the opposing side.

During the second hearing, the joint bench of Justices Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Nrip Dhwaj Niraula requested the filing of three related petitions and set the next hearing for Tuesday.

The court also directed that two separate letters from the Citizen Liberation Party regarding its support for the government be submitted. One letter, sent to the Secretariat of Parliament, withdrew support, while the other reaffirmed it.

Additionally, the resignation letter of Minister Arun Kumar Chaudhary, who represents the party in the government, must also be presented to the court.
