SC to hear Ramesh Chaudhary’s candidacy challenge

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the petition filed by Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, challenging the rejection of his candidacy.

The case has been listed before a single bench of Justice Balkrishna Dhakal. Chaudhary approached the Supreme Court after the Election Commission disqualified his candidacy from Kailali-1.

Chaudhary had filed his nomination for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5.

The Election Commission rejected his candidacy on Thursday, citing his prior conviction in the Tikapur incident, which, according to the commission, renders him ineligible to contest elections.
