KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has given an opportunity to rectify the writ petition filed by Hitendradev Shakya, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Shakya had filed the writ petition on Wednesday, seeking a resolution for a case that had been pending for over three and a half years.

However, the Supreme Court administration pointed out that the writ did not meet the required legal format and has granted Shakya the chance to amend it.

After discussions between Shakya’s legal representatives and the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Bhadrakali Pokharel, the opportunity for correction was given.

Following this, Shakya’s side is preparing to submit the corrected writ today.

The controversy began after Kulman Ghising was dismissed and Shakya was appointed as the Executive Director of the NEA, leading to a legal dispute that reached the Supreme Court. Ghising has also filed a writ petition, claiming his dismissal was illegal.

Shakya, in his petition, argued that his transfer from the position of NEA Executive Director to the Energy Commission in 2020 was incorrect, and he demanded that the benefits and facilities he had earned should be provided.

The next hearing for his petition has been scheduled for June 24, 2025.
