‘Sarathi’ launched; Uttam–Niruta reunite after two decades

KATHMANDU: A new Nepali film Sarathi, marking the directorial debut of Kumar Gajurel, has officially gone on floors.

The film was launched on Monday with a traditional ceremony at Bhadrakali Temple in Kathmandu, before the team departed for Gurja Mines in Myagdi for shooting.

Director Gajurel said filming will begin from Wednesday (April 22) around the scenic Gurja Khani area, with a 40-day schedule planned.

The film is produced by veteran editor Tara Thapa ‘Kimbhe’, who steps into production after nearly three decades in the Nepali film industry. He aims to deliver a compelling story backed by his long editorial experience.

Produced under Kimbhe Production in collaboration with Dhiraj Infinity Films, Sarathi will see actors Uttam Pradhan and Niruta Singh reunite on screen after nearly two decades, raising audience anticipation.

While Singh attended the launch ceremony, Pradhan is expected to join the shoot directly after arriving in Nepal on April 28.

The launch event was attended by senior film personalities Laxminath Sharma, Prakash Sayami, and Manjunath Shrestha as special guests, along with Deep Bahadur Chhantyal, former General Secretary and current advisor of the Nepal Chhantyal Association.

The film also features a strong ensemble cast including Mukunda Shrestha, Samranta Thapa, Giri Bishwakarma, Gayatri Joshi, Madan Thapa, Milan Khadka, Rashmi Gurung, Tulsi Rai, and Asha Bishwakarma.

Sauryal Thapa serves as producer, with Radip Shrestha and Pradip Rayamajhi as executive producers. Amir KC and director Gajurel are on board as line producers.
