Sagar Lamsal: I’m innocent, betrayed by close ones
Giri recalled reassuring Lamsal that despite years of hard work being jeopardized in just 17 seconds, his talent and audience support would see him through.
KATHMANDU: Actor Sagar Lamsal has asserted that he is innocent, claiming that those close to him have conspired against him out of jealousy over his success.
Director Raju Giri, who visited Lamsal in custody, shared on social media that Lamsal told him, “Some of my closest people trapped me because they couldn’t bear to see my success. But I have done nothing wrong.”
Giri recalled reassuring Lamsal that despite years of hard work being jeopardized in just 17 seconds, his talent and audience support would see him through.
He also advised the actor not to fear if he had done nothing wrong.
Lamsal faces allegations of sexual assault from a young woman residing in the United States.
The woman claims the assault occurred a year ago while Lamsal was in the U.S.
The actor was arrested from Budhanilkantha last Saturday, sparking widespread scrutiny and pressure on authorities to investigate.
However, no formal complaint has yet been filed against him with the police.
For this reason, authorities sought custody permission from the Chief District Officer under charges of misconduct.
Subsequently, CDO Ishwar Raj Paudel granted the police permission to hold Lamsal in custody for five days for further investigation.
