KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Hari Dhakal has accused the government of weakening democracy through what he described as an “anarchic, intolerant, and hostile style of governance.”

Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dhakal criticized the ruling coalition for ignoring his party’s continuous protests for the past 95 days.

“We have been agitating for 95 days, yet the ruling side refuses to listen. Instead, its lawmakers waste hours countering us with baseless accusations in an anarchic and intolerant manner,” Dhakal said.

He also expressed concern over the growing trend of using deepfake voice recordings to assassinate the character of opposition leaders. Dhakal further accused constitutional commissions of being rendered ineffective due to partisan influence.

“Our constructive debates in parliament are being undermined. Instead of listening, they are spreading fake voice recordings outside to tarnish our image. I strongly condemn such behavior and character assassination,” he added.

Looking ahead, Dhakal said the people will make decisive choices in 2084 BS to revive democracy. “In 2084, democracy will rise again.

The anti-graft body will also become active, and constitutional commissions captured by political parties will finally start functioning,” he remarked.
