RSP to name Rupandehi-3 by-election candidate after Lamichhane meeting

Immediately after meeting Lamichhane, a secretariat meeting will be held at the party office at 1:30 PM to officially select one candidate from among the nine aspirants.

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to finalize its candidate for the upcoming Rupandehi-3 by-election today.

Aspirants will meet party president Rabi Lamichhane, currently serving his sentence at Nakkhu Prison in a cooperative fraud case, to seek his final approval.

Nine candidates are scheduled to visit Nakkhu Prison at 11:00 AM for the meeting.

Immediately after meeting Lamichhane, a secretariat meeting will be held at the party office at 1:30 PM to officially select one candidate from among the nine aspirants.

According to party sources, the formal announcement of the candidate is expected at 4:30 PM. Prior to this, a special party induction program has been planned at 3:30 PM.

The nine aspirants, shortlisted after the application period from Shrawan 7 to 21, include party central member Kusum Maharjan, Rupandehi-3 regional president Madhu Aryal, Butwal-based Sulabh Kharel who recently returned from the US, Parthivendra Upadhyaya, Dr. Lekhajung Thapa, Gyanu Paudel, Kotahimai’s Jeet Bahadur Gupta, Rachana Kshetri, and Punam Kumari Agrawal.

Among them, five are from the Bhairahawa area, while Kusum, Madhu, Sulabh, and Jeet Bahadur hail from other regions.

The Rupandehi-3 seat fell vacant following the death of RPP-elected Deepak Bohara.

The by-election is scheduled for Kartik 17. RSP has emphasized the strategic importance of this by-election and is working to field a strong candidate.

Today’s candidate announcement is expected to add further excitement to the electoral atmosphere in Rupandehi-3.
