RSP surge mirrors 2064 maoist vote: Jyoti Magar
On Oli’s widening defeat, Magar said she foresaw the outcome, emphasizing that supporting a preferred leader is a democratic right.
KATHMANDU: Renowned singer Jyoti Magar has compared the current rise of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to the Maoist movement of 2064 BS, saying the public is playing the same role now as it did to overthrow the monarchy—targeting KP Sharma Oli and the Nepali Congress.
“Yesterday the people removed the king; today they are removing Oli and Congress,” she said, adding that political struggles exploit the public, with sacrifices going in vain since the 2046 BS movement.
Magar criticized manipulation of public sentiment in the name of caste, gender, or festivals, saying, “This time too, the public is being played to remove the old guard.”
Though she campaigned for Oli in Jhapa-5, he trails behind RSP senior leader Balen Shah. On Oli’s widening defeat, Magar said she foresaw the outcome, emphasizing that supporting a preferred leader is a democratic right.
She warned, “If the next government is not allowed to stabilize, chaos will repeat. Even good leaders can lose despite their work, as seen with Oli.”
