RSP candidate Thapa denies polygamy allegations, calls it attack on party
However, he expressed disappointment that he instead had to clarify personal matters in Kathmandu due to growing questions about his private life.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Dr. Lekh Jung Thapa has issued a detailed clarification on social media following allegations of polygamy, asserting that his personal life is both lawful and transparent.
Dr. Thapa, contesting the Rupandehi-3 by-election, stated that after receiving the party ticket, he had planned to fly to Nepalgunj on the first flight to share the good news and receive blessings from his 96-year-old mother.
However, he expressed disappointment that he instead had to clarify personal matters in Kathmandu due to growing questions about his private life.
“The attack is not on Lekh Jung Thapa, but a deliberate attempt to undermine RSP, a party committed to cultured politics,” he wrote.
Thapa admitted that circumstances in his life led him to marry twice, with one of the marriages ending in divorce.
He claimed the party was fully informed about his personal history before nominating him, and that the decision was taken based on legal consultations.
With 14 years of experience as a neurosurgeon, Thapa said he continues to maintain a cordial relationship with his former wife in the best interest of their children. “If cooperation after divorce is considered a mistake, then I have no regrets,” he stated.
Positioning himself not as a traditional politician but as a companion in the campaign for change, Thapa emphasized that the Rupandehi-3 candidacy is not his alone. “The real candidates are Punam, JB, Rachana, Sulav, Gyanendra, Madhu, Parthivendra, Kusum, and every Nepali who loves this country,” he said.
Thapa highlighted that he was chosen after a 35-day long multi-dimensional selection process and pledged to respect any decision the party may take in the coming days. “I am prepared to make any sacrifice for the wave of transformation we are striving to bring,” he concluded.
His remarks come just days after RSP officially nominated him for the Rupandehi-3 by-election, following which questions about his marital life began to surface.
