RPP leader calls for market support & import ban on foreign apples
Speaking at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Shahi demanded a two-month ban on foreign apple imports.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Spokesperson Gyan Bahadur Shahi has urged the government to ensure a stable market for apples from Jumla.
Speaking at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Shahi demanded a two-month ban on foreign apple imports.
He cited concerns over pesticide contamination in imported apples, which could pose health risks, and emphasized that local apples often fail to fetch fair prices.
Shahi also appealed to all lawmakers and parliamentary staff to purchase Jumla apples to support local farmers.
He raised concerns that police often harass traders transporting apples to the capital under the pretext of inspections, drawing the attention of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
Shahi stressed that foreign apples should only be allowed after proper quality checks.
