KATHMANDU: Movie ‘Roll No. 1’ is receiving an encouraging response from audiences shortly after its release, with producer Binod Paudel expressing confidence that positive word-of-mouth will help the film build strong momentum in the coming days.
Viewers who watched the film on Friday have praised it across social media, describing it as a meaningful and emotionally engaging cinema.
Many users have urged others to watch the film, stating that it is not just a 2.5-hour theatrical experience but a story that “stays in the heart for a long time.” Some posts have even compared its impact to ‘Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi’, calling it another must-watch emotional drama.
According to producer Paudel, the film’s response reflects the intention with which it was made. He said the team expected audiences to understand its core message, and the initial reactions suggest that expectation has been fulfilled. “The feedback has encouraged us greatly. We feel we have succeeded in reaching viewers the way we intended,” he noted.
The film focuses on Nepal’s school education system, the pressure of academic evaluation, and the emotional impact on children and parents. Audiences have appreciated how the story highlights the burden created by competitive education and parental expectations.
Following the strong response, lead actors including Mukun Bhusal and Sushank Mainali along with Shankar Acharya have begun visiting cinemas outside the Kathmandu Valley to interact with audiences.
The promotional tour started in Jhapa and will continue across other major cities in Nepal, according to the production team.
Directed by Jon Yonjan, the film features Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Nath Yogi, Avin Raj Upreti, and Srijana Adhikari in key roles.
Child actors include Nirbhik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Kutuwal, and Sijal Shrestha.
The film is produced by Binod Paudel and Janvi Paudel, with co-producers Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain.
The screenplay is written by Mahesh Dawadi, and cinematography is handled by Shivaram Shrestha.
