KATHMANDU: The upcoming film ‘Ramita Ko Pirati’, set to release on Magh 23 (Feb 6), is making headlines following the release of its public trailer. While Nepali films often focus on the male lead, this movie centers entirely on the character Ramita.

The film follows Ramita’s life and the ups and downs she experiences while searching for true love. Anna Sharma plays the titular role, alongside Dhiraj Magar and Binay Shrestha. Singer Sameer Shrestha also makes his acting debut through this project. The story revolves primarily around these three characters.

Anna Sharma serves not only as the lead actress but also as the executive producer. She explained that the female-focused film portrays an emotional journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and personal choice following a breakup. “The story is centered on Ramita’s emotional journey. Although it begins with a breakup, it’s not just about heartbreak—it’s about self-exploration, self-respect, and self-acceptance. We have tried to present the film differently from typical movies,” Anna said.

She added that she collaborated closely with director Sudipta for six months to develop and explore the character of Ramita. “I am excited as the release approaches. The film, the character, and the role are very special, and I hope the story resonates with the audience,” she said.

Initially, Anna joined the project purely as an actress after reading the script. However, working closely with director Sudipta and producer Sagar Lamsal, she later took on the role of executive producer. “At first, our core team was very small. Through daily meetings and workshops, we reached decisions together. Producer Sagar trusted me with the responsibility of executive producer, which became a great learning opportunity for me,” she shared. She added that the role gave her both creative freedom and a sense of responsibility: “The responsibility is high, but the creative freedom is equally enjoyable.”

Anna believes the film delivers an important message, particularly to young women and youth: “One must love and care for oneself first; only then can one love others,” she said. The film also explores the impact of social media and external validation on mental health. Ramita’s character, at times dependent on others’ approval, reflects challenges relevant to today’s generation.

The romantic relationship between the characters played by Sameer and Anna is portrayed through songs that capture the early stages of love and their connection.

For Anna, ‘Ramita Ko Pirati’ is special for three reasons: it is a completely female-centered story, written and directed by a female director, and marks her first experience as an executive producer.

The film also involves Santosh Lamsal as executive producer, Subash Koirala as co-producer and director, and Sagar Lamsal as producer.

The soundtrack features music by Sushant KC, Sameer Shrestha, Mahesh Kafle, Asmita Adhikari, and Kushal Pokharel.

Shishir Bishankhe serves as DOP, Sunil Sivakoti as editor, Kapil Parajuli as colorist, and Kritika Baral as choreographer.

The film will be distributed in the Kathmandu Valley by Reach Entertainment and Apple Entertainment, while FD Company will handle distribution outside the valley.
