KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been released after depositing bail at the Rupandehi District Court in Bhairahawa on Saturday.

According to court officials, Lamichhane paid a total bail amount of Rs 37.48 million and was released from custody in connection with the cooperative fraud case.

He had been in judicial custody prior to the High Court Butwal’s order to release him on bail by taking the disputed amount as security.

Speaking to the media after his release from Bhairahawa District Jail, Lamichhane said that his fight for justice is far from over. He stressed that his struggle is not personal but aimed at securing justice for the people and the country.

“This battle for justice is still unfinished. I still have much more to fight—and this fight is not for me, but for you and for justice in this country,” Lamichhane said. “Compared to the injustice done to this nation, the injustice done to me is insignificant. There is still accountability to be settled, and justice is yet to be achieved.”

Return to Public Engagements

With his conditional release, Lamichhane is set to return to public and party activities starting Saturday. His first public appearance will be in Chitwan, his home district and parliamentary constituency.

RSP spokesperson Manish Jha said Lamichhane will address a party gathering at Chaubiskoti, Bharatpur, at 11 am.

Although his address will be brief, it is expected to be significant, marking his return to direct public engagement after a prolonged absence.

Following the Chitwan program, Lamichhane is scheduled to return to Kathmandu later the same day. Upon arrival, he will meet individuals injured during the Gen Z movement, as well as families of those who lost their lives, according to the party.

Party Reception in Kathmandu

In addition, the RSP has organized a formal welcome for its chairman at the party’s central office in Bansthali (Ghantighar) at 3 pm today.

Party leaders and cadres are expected to attend the reception program.

Lamichhane was released on Friday after a joint bench of High Court Butwal judges Basudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Poudel ordered his release on bail by taking the claimed amount as security.
