Rabi Lamichhane to be freed today after posting bail
With the process of depositing the bail amount now underway, Lamichhane’s release is expected later today.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, who has been in custody in connection with a cooperative fraud case, is set to be released on Friday.
The Butwal Bench of the Tulsipur High Court on Thursday ordered his release after setting bail at Rs 26.8 million.
With the process of depositing the bail amount now underway, Lamichhane’s release is expected later today.
Currently held at Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur, Lamichhane will be formally freed only after completing legal procedures in Rupandehi.
As per legal provisions, he must appear before the Rupandehi District Court for document verification, after which the official release letter will be issued.
He is being taken to Bhairahawa today for this purpose.
The High Court had ordered his release upon acceptance of the bail amount. On Thursday, rumors of his immediate release drew a large crowd of supporters to the Nakkhu Prison premises.
However, as the required court procedures were still pending, his release was postponed to Friday.
