Rabi departs for first official India visit
The trip is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing issues of mutual interest between Nepal and India.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has departed for New Delhi on Monday afternoon for an official five-day visit to India.
This marks his first formal visit to India since the formation of a government led by the RSP, making the trip politically significant in Nepal’s current context.
Lamichhane is visiting India at the invitation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership.
He is expected to engage in high-level political and diplomatic meetings during his stay in New Delhi.
However, a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet been officially confirmed.
He is accompanied by his wife, Nirmala/Nikita Paudel (as reported), along with party leaders including Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya, and secretariat members Deepak Bohora and Pradip Acharya.
According to the itinerary, Lamichhane is expected to hold discussions on bilateral relations and mutual interests between Nepal and India.
His visit has drawn added attention in Nepal’s political circles, especially following recent controversial remarks by Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding the Nepal–India border issue, which has intensified political debate domestically.
Lamichhane is scheduled to return to Nepal on Jestha 22 (June 5).
