KATHMANDU: The highly anticipated Nepali film ‘Paanch Pandav’ is currently filming in eastern Nepal’s Jhapa district, generating buzz for its large-scale production and ensemble of renowned actors.

Two weeks into shooting, the production team has introduced two new faces: versatile actor Prashant Tamrakar and popular content creator and model Eva Giri, expanding the film’s canvas, according to director Basanta Niraula.

Filming began on March 16 with a ceremonial launch in the Nepal–India border town of Kakarbhitta, bringing together both veteran and rising stars of the Nepali film industry.

The film centers around the titular “Paanch Pandavs,” played by Hari Bansha Acharya, Jitu Nepal, Aryan Sigdel, Mahesh Tripathi, and Sagar Lamsal. Female leads Deepashree Niraula and Jani Gurung portray pivotal roles in the narrative.

Despite its title, ‘Paanch Pandav’ is not a mythological or religious story. Writer Sushil Paudel confirmed the film is a contemporary social drama that draws symbolic parallels with the five Pandavs of the Mahabharata to reflect modern Nepali society.

Presenter Naveen Shrestha emphasized that the production spares no expense in creating a grand cinematic experience. “From seasoned actors like Hari Bansha Acharya to beloved new-generation stars, we are confident this will be one of the most awaited films of the year,” he said. Shrestha previously produced the 2025 film ‘Laaj Sharanam’.

Produced by Kali Rani Shrestha, ‘Paanch Pandav’ has a 40-day shooting schedule, with most scenes being filmed at scenic and iconic locations across Jhapa before moving to other destinations, Niraula added.

The film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues are penned by Sushil Paudel, with Shyam Tamang handling cinematography.

Technically, the film is set to impress, featuring full Dolby Atmos sound, engineered at the newly established M Music Nepal studio.
