KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah and Speaker DP Aryal held a meeting on Thursday as tensions continued in the House of Representatives over the Prime Minister’s absence from parliamentary proceedings.

According to sources, the two leaders discussed the current situation in Parliament and ways to ensure the smooth functioning of the House.

The meeting lasted for around half an hour.

Opposition lawmakers have been repeatedly demanding the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament, raising slogans and pressing the Speaker to issue a formal ruling requiring him to attend sessions.

However, the Speaker has not yet issued any such directive.

Meanwhile, in the Prime Minister’s absence, government ministers continue to respond to parliamentary queries and present legislative proposals in the House.

The ongoing standoff has kept parliamentary proceedings under pressure as opposition parties intensify their calls for executive accountability within the legislature.
