KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah has said the government is working to manage residents living in Kathmandu’s squatter settlements, stressing that their lives remain at risk due to the vulnerable conditions in which they reside.

Speaking on the issue, Shah urged people not to expect an immediate solution to a problem that has persisted for decades.

“The residents were living in a highly sensitive and vulnerable situation. Even when I was in local government, I had suggested that the federal government relocate them to holding centers and identify genuine landless squatters. The work is now being carried out accordingly,” he said.

Shah added, “A problem that has remained unresolved for 35 years cannot be solved in 35 minutes.”
