KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki paid her respects to Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student who was killed during the Israel–Hamas conflict, at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday afternoon.

Addressing the condolence ceremony, PM Karki expressed the unimaginable suffering Nepali youths faced during the conflict.

She said, “We cannot fathom the pain and hardship Nepali youths endured while being held hostage or caught in the war. Bipin Joshi was a son to all Nepali mothers. No one will ever forget him.”

Bipin Joshi, an agriculture student from Kanchanpur, had gone to Israel for studies and was taken hostage during the Hamas attack on the Kibbutz area on Oct 7, 2023.

His fate remained unknown until Oct 13, when Israeli authorities confirmed his death. Following a prisoner exchange after the Israel–Hamas ceasefire, Hamas handed over his body to the Israeli army.

DNA tests confirmed the body was indeed Joshi’s, and forensic examinations indicated he had died at the time of abduction, officials from the Nepali Embassy in Israel said.
