KATHMANDU: Former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, along with other accused, are facing a hearing today in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
The trial has commenced at the Kathmandu District Court under Judge Dhurvraj Karki.
The high-profile case involves 36 defendants, including Rayamajhi, Khand, former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s security advisor Indrajit Rai, Thapa’s son Pratik Thapa, and former Home Secretary Tek Raj Pandey. All are currently in custody.
They face charges of fraud, forgery, crimes against the state, and organized crime.
Due to the involvement of high-ranking officials and the case’s wide impact, it has attracted nationwide attention as a highly sensitive matter.
Previously, the court ordered the main accused to be held in custody during the investigation, citing strong grounds for the charges.
Today’s hearing is expected to proceed with legal arguments from both the prosecution and defense sides.
