KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has emphasized that the government is actively working to create a conducive environment for investment in Nepal.

Speaking at the 47th Annual General Meeting of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) today, Deputy PM Paudel stated, “The government is focused on boosting private sector confidence and creating a favorable environment for investment in the country.”

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and advancing the national economy. Reflecting on the country’s economic trajectory, he noted, “When I assumed office, all economic indicators were negative. Today, we are witnessing positive changes across all indicators.”

Addressing concerns about potential VAT exemptions, Paudel clarified that the government is not in a position to provide such relief at present. “It is challenging even to meet basic expenses from revenue. Instead of VAT exemptions, we encourage programs and initiatives that promote business. The government is ready to facilitate ease of doing business,” he added.

Deputy PM Paudel further highlighted political stability as a foundation for economic growth, stating, “The current government is strong and stable. It will remain in office until the 2084 elections, ensuring policy continuity. We are committed to implementing the policies and budget we have introduced.”

During the event, TAAN Chair Sagar Pandey urged the government to focus on policy reforms and infrastructure development to further boost tourism. “To create a business-friendly environment, the government must prioritize policy improvements and infrastructure development,” he said.

The ceremony also honored various organizations and media personnel who have contributed significantly to the development of mountain tourism in Nepal.
