KATHMANDU: Members of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee congratulated newly elected Chairperson Ishwari Devi Neupane and urged the committee to move forward with pending bills.

During today’s meeting, members emphasized learning from past mistakes in bill drafting and recommended swift progress on key legislation under review, including bills related to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, construction material management, and police reforms.

Rajendra Pandey, a lawmaker from the CPN (Unified Socialist), stressed the need for seriousness in bill formulation and creating an environment where bills drafted by local representatives are not returned without approval.

Durga Rai of the CPN (Maoist Centre) called for meticulous attention to avoid past errors, saying, “Each clause of a bill must be clear before the committee approves a report.

While the House is not in session, we should advance discussions on bills related to the anti-corruption commission, construction, and police without delay.”

Padam Giri of the CPN (UML) highlighted the importance of setting clear timelines for moving bills forward, adding, “Without deadlines, citizens’ complaints will continue. We cannot preach good governance if we ourselves fail to follow it.”

Prakash Adhikari of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal emphasized that good governance should start within the committee itself.

“Bills coming to the committee should not be stalled. Either the government should withdraw them, or the committee must ensure the legislative process moves forward,” he stated.
