KATHMANDU: The government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising from his position as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) led to disruptions in the Federal Parliament’s sessions on Thursday.

Padma Prasad Pandey, the Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament, issued a notice informing that the meeting of the House of Representatives had been rescheduled. Originally set for 11 a.m., the session was postponed to 2 p.m. by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, as per the notice.

Meanwhile, in the National Assembly, opposition members created an obstruction, forcing Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal to suspend the session for an hour.

Following the protests, Chair Dahal allowed CPN-S leader Beduram Bhusal to speak. Bhusal took the opportunity to demand that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli provide a response on the government’s decision to remove Ghising, stating that the session would not proceed unless the Prime Minister addressed the issue.

Despite repeated efforts to resume the meeting, opposition lawmakers continued their protests.

In response, Chair Dahal permitted Congress MP Krishna Prasad Sitaula to speak. Sitaula urged the Parliament to proceed, emphasizing the 60-day deadline for completing the legislative process imposed by the government.

He accused the opposition of creating obstructions to delay the process.

After further disruption, Chair Dahal declared a one-hour suspension of the National Assembly session.
