KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army has been deployed to secure the Parliament building area in New Baneshwor after the ongoing “Gen Z” protest spiraled into chaos on Monday.
The demonstration, which began peacefully at Maitighar Mandala earlier in the morning, escalated when protesters breached the restricted zone and marched into New Baneshwor.
The situation quickly turned violent as demonstrators resorted to vandalism and arson, prompting authorities to call in the military for security reinforcement.
In response to the escalating unrest, the Kathmandu District Administration Office has imposed a curfew in several parts of the capital.
The Gen Z protesters, mostly young people, had taken to the streets to demand a ban on social media shutdowns and stronger action against corruption.
