One killed, 7 injured in jeep accident in Lamjung
The driver has been taken into police custody for further investigation.
KATHMANDU: A 74-year-old woman was killed and seven others were injured after a jeep met with an accident in the forest area below Siddhathan of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-9 on Wednesday morning.
The jeep (Ga 1 Ja 5065) was en route to the district headquarters Besisahar from Bhujung of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality-4 via Mrchegaun when it lost control at around 10 am.
According to Police Inspector Abhishek Pandey of the District Police Office, the vehicle slipped off a bend while attempting to turn on a curving road and plunged approximately 50–60 meters down the hillside.
Mal Kumari Gurung, 74, of Bhujung, succumbed to injuries during treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Besisahar.
Her husband, 80-year-old Aitram Gurung, is in critical condition.
Others receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital include Kali Gurung, 50; Smriti Gurung, 27; Elina Gurung, 22; Aryan Gurung, 31, of Marsyangdi-9; and Ritu Gurung, 22, and Kripa Gurung, 20, of Besisahar Municipality-5.
Police said Aitram, Kali, Aryan and Smriti are being prepared for referral to a higher medical center for advanced treatment.
The driver has been taken into police custody for further investigation.
