Oli’s father cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat (photos)
Prominent leaders across parties expressed condolences.
KATHMANDU: Mohan Prasad Oli, father of former Prime Minister and Chairman of KP Sharma Oli, passed away on Friday morning at the age of 97.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nepal–Korea Friendship Hospital after being taken there late Thursday night following breathing difficulties. He had been unwell for several days prior to his death.
The last rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday, where political leaders, relatives, and supporters gathered to pay their final respects.
Chair Oli and his wife Radhika Shakya were present as his body was released from the hospital.
Mohan Prasad Oli is survived by two sons and three daughters.
Leaders from across the political spectrum expressed condolences over the demise. Among those offering tributes were Gagan Thapa, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Thapa prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul, while Deuba expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Prachanda and Nepal also extended condolences to Chair Oli and his family.
Mohan Prasad Oli had been living at his daughter’s residence in Gatthaghar, Bhaktapur.
His house in Jhapa was set on fire during the Gen Z protest on Bhadra 23 and 24 last year, after which he did not return to Jhapa.
