KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inspected public and private structures damaged during the Gen-Z-led protests in Jhapa Constituency No. 5 last Sept 8 and 9.

Visiting his home district for the first time since the unrest, Oli toured Damak and surrounding areas, observing buildings of local governments, public infrastructure, and private properties that were vandalized or set ablaze by protesters.

During the inspection, he pledged to initiate efforts for reconstruction and relief for those affected.

The Gen Z movement, led by youth activists, had sparked nationwide unrest, with incidents of arson and vandalism reported in several places, including Damak Municipality and the View Tower area in Jhapa.

Following the violence, Oli had faced restrictions on traveling outside the Kathmandu Valley, which were lifted only recently.

After the ban was removed, he arrived in Jhapa, met with local leaders and party cadres, and began preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun (March).

Oli is preparing to contest from Jhapa-5, and his visit is being widely seen as an early sign of growing electoral momentum.

Addressing supporters, he emphasized the need for unity to ensure peace and development.

He also urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the violent incidents and take strict action against those responsible.
