KATHMANDU: Nepalese citizens can exchange new and crisp currency notes starting from Sept 14 in preparation for the grand festival of Dashain.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a notice informing the public about the currency exchange arrangements.
According to the Currency Management Department of NRB, the exchange of new notes will be available from Sept 14 to 26.
The general public can exchange notes at the central office in Thapathali, as well as at various provincial offices located in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi.
In addition, authorized Class ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ banks and financial institutions will allow the public, as well as different organizations and associations, to exchange notes during regular business hours.

This arrangement is expected to ensure smooth access to new notes during the festive season.
This year, Vijaya Dashami falls on Oct 2, with Ghatasthapana starting from Sept 22.
Exchanging new notes during Dashain has long been a traditional practice, enhancing the festive spirit and allowing devotees to receive blessings in the form of crisp notes from elders during tika ceremonies.
Through this arrangement, NRB aims to ensure adequate availability of new currency in the market during Dashain, supporting the continuation of this cherished tradition.
