KATHMANDU: The Nepal Premier League (NPL) is set to embark on its first-ever Trophy Tour, starting from Biratnagar, the home of franchise team Biratnagar Kings.
The initiative, organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), aims to bring the excitement of the tournament closer to fans across the country ahead of the league’s highly anticipated second edition.
The Trophy Tour will cover major cities representing all eight NPL franchise teams: Biratnagar Kings, Janakpur Bolts, Chitwan Rhinos, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Pokhara Avengers, Lumbini Lions, Karnali Yaks, and Sudurpaschim Royals.
Speaking at the launch event held on Friday evening, CAN Secretary and NPL Governing Council Chief Paras Khadka revealed that the trophy will travel “from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west,” symbolizing the league’s reach and unity across Nepal. The tour is scheduled to run until Kartik 23.
After launching in Koshi Province, the trophy will journey to Janakpur—the home of the inaugural NPL champions, Janakpur Bolts. From there, it will continue to Chitwan, then arrive in Kathmandu where Kathmandu Gurkhas plan to showcase it at various historical landmarks.
Following the capital, the tour will move on to Pokhara, Lumbini, Karnali, and finally conclude in the Sudurpaschim Province, hosted by the Sudurpaschim Royals.
In a unique gesture promoting climate awareness and environmental conservation, CAN has embedded a stone from Kalapatthar, a high-altitude landmark near Everest Base Camp, into the trophy. This symbolizes the league’s commitment to environmental causes amid the growing threat of global warming.
Renowned Nepali mountaineers Phunjo Jhangmu, Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, and Mingma David Sherpa unveiled the trophy during the launch event, adding prestige to the occasion.
Khadka also noted that each franchise will independently decide the specific locations and events for their segment of the Trophy Tour, ensuring local fan engagement and cultural representation.
With the second edition of the NPL set to take place from Poush 1 to 27 in Kathmandu, the Trophy Tour is expected to boost excitement and deepen the connection between franchises and their supporters across Nepal.
Meanwhile, the mini auction for Season 2 has already concluded, setting the stage for what promises to be another thrilling season of top-tier domestic cricket.
