New Ebola case confirmed in NW DR Congo

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 23 – According to a statement released Saturday by DRC’s Health Minister Jean-Jacques Mbungani, a positive case of Ebola virus disease has been confirmed in Wangata Health Zone of Equateur province in northwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The case, a 31-year old male, was detected in the city of Mbandaka, capital of Congo’s Equateur province, the institute said. A health ministry spokesperson confirmed the discovery.
The patient’s symptoms began on April 5, but he did not seek treatment for more than a week. He was admitted to an Ebola treatment center on April 21 and died later that day, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
