NEPSE extends losses, turnover declines
With continued selling pressure, Sunday’s decline reflects growing caution among investors.
KATHMANDU: The benchmark NEPSE index declined sharply on Sunday, shedding 27.59 points to close at 2,614.55, marking a 1.04% drop from the previous trading session.
The market had already been under pressure in the previous session, when the NEPSE fell by nearly 21 points to settle at 2,642.15 last Tuesday.
With continued selling pressure, Sunday’s decline reflects growing caution among investors.
Due to public holidays last week, the stock market had opened for only two trading days—Monday and Tuesday—resulting in relatively thin market participation.
The limited trading days and weak sentiment further weighed on market momentum.
Out of the stocks traded on Sunday:
-
34 companies saw their share prices rise
-
220 companies recorded declines
-
7 companies remained unchanged
Market activity also weakened. A total of 15,989,430 shares were traded through 72,104 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 6.69 billion.
This represents a noticeable drop in trading value compared to the previous session, when transactions totaled Rs 8.36 billion.
All 13 sector indices that participated in trading ended the day in negative territory, indicating a broad-based sell-off across the market.
The widespread decline across sectors exerted strong downward pressure on the overall NEPSE index.
