KATHMANDU:  Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal on the occasion of Civil Service Day, emphasized the pivotal role of Nepal’s civil service in the nation’s governance system.

Speaking at a ceremony in Kathmandu on Sunday, Aryal underscored that the civil service has established itself as the backbone of the country’s administrative framework.

Aryal remarked that the Civil Service Day serves as a reminder for government employees to strengthen their commitment to professional and creative administration, development, prosperity, and good governance.

It also deepens their sense of responsibility, accountability, and dedication toward the citizens and the nation.

He highlighted that the civil service’s role in public service delivery, regulation, governance, and development—along with the effective implementation of government policies and programs—has significantly contributed to Nepal’s economic and social transformation.

The Chief Secretary also pointed out that the civil service has proven its competence and alertness even during challenging times.

He noted the gradual transition from traditional bureaucratic systems to the use of information technology, which has helped move the civil service toward a digital service era.

“We are celebrating the 22nd Civil Service Day today under the banner of ‘Professional and Creative Administration, Development, Prosperity, and Good Governance.’ This day reminds all civil servants of their deep-rooted responsibility, accountability, and dedication to the nation and its citizens. Nepal’s civil service has established itself as a reliable and uninterrupted mechanism for delivering services to citizens with its unique identity,” Aryal stated.

He further emphasized that Nepal’s civil service has become the cornerstone of the country’s public administration system, playing an essential role in implementing government policies and programs effectively.

Aryal also noted that during difficult times, the civil service has consistently proven its ability to overcome challenges and support the nation’s progress.

The Chief Secretary recognized the significant role the civil service has played in modernizing public service delivery, shifting from paper-based systems to digital services, and facilitating Nepal’s entry into the digital age.

He concluded by acknowledging the significant contributions of civil servants to Nepal’s economic, social, and physical development, noting that their role remains integral to the nation’s ongoing progress.
