KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has emphasized that elections must be held on Falgun 21 (March 5), saying that the party is eager to go to the polls.

Speaking during a meeting with local party leaders in Sundarharaicha Municipality Ward No. 4 in Morang-6, Koirala said, “Elections are the foundation of democracy and the only way to save the constitution and protect the country from political turmoil.”

He expressed doubts about the government’s readiness, stating, “We are waiting for the election date, but the government’s preparations raise concerns about whether the elections will actually take place.”

Koirala also criticized the administration for failing to create a conducive environment for elections, pointing out, “Some party leaders have been restricted from traveling outside Kathmandu, looted weapons are in circulation, and prisoners are free. What has the government thought about these issues?”

He further instructed party cadres to mobilize and prepare actively for the upcoming elections.
