MP Tulsa Dahal seeks govt clarification on health insurance crisis
She added that delaying budget arrangements for such a public-oriented programme is unacceptable and called for immediate government action to ensure its continuity.
KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Tulsa Kumari Dahal has called on the government to clearly inform Parliament about the problems facing Nepal’s health insurance programme, citing reports that services are being halted due to budget shortages.
Speaking during the zero hour of Friday’s National Assembly meeting, Dahal said hospitals have reportedly suspended health insurance services after failing to receive timely funds from the government. She stressed that the House deserves a clear explanation of what has gone wrong and how the issue will be resolved.
“The health insurance programme has been providing significant relief to the general public, but news is emerging that hospitals are being forced to stop services because the government has not released the budget,” Dahal said. “I urge the government to inform Parliament about the current situation and the steps being taken to manage it.”
She added that delaying budget arrangements for such a public-oriented programme is unacceptable and called for immediate government action to ensure its continuity.
Dahal also noted that Prime Minister Sushila Karki has shown concern over the issue and has committed to arranging the necessary financial resources.
Emphasising the programme’s importance to citizens, she said the government must take prompt decisions to manage matters of public interest effectively.
